Owned and managed by a local family, the Gates is both personal and luxurious, with food in its panoramic dining room that has been awarded an AA rosette for culinary excellence, complemented by a wine-list that is as comprehensive as it is entertaining.
Each bedroom is individually designed to make the most of the timeless views of the Valley. Recently refurbished in soft, restful colours and fabrics, to offer our guests a stylish, comfortable place to relax after a day out in the Lakes. For those seeking additional luxury, the Millican Dalton Suite was created by local craftsmen, to celebrate the life of this unusual local celebrity.
There is lift access to all rooms on the upper floors. Ground floor room available with easy access and a wet room.
Surrounded by fells and set in two acres of peaceful, wooded grounds on the edge of the hamlet of Grange, our guests are spoiled for choice in terms of stunning walks, ranging from easy along Derwentwater lakeshore to the more strenuous opportunities available. Our natural wildlife include deer, red squirrels, birds and other interesting creatures which contribute to the incredible scenery. Whether you choose to enjoy this from the comfort of our private guest areas, or get out and about in the fresh air, we shall do all we can to help you enjoy the best that Borrowdale has to offer.
Finally, our guests can enjoy a free round of golf at the Keswick Golf Club, less than 10 miles away, courtesy of the hotel, from Monday to Saturday only. Players must be residents of the hotel and each guest attending is entitled to play one 18 hole round. Please contact reception for more details.

- From Keswick, take the B5289 signposted for the Borrowdale Valley and Seatoller.
- After approx. 4 miles, turn right into the hamlet of Grange (over the double-humped bridge)
- The hotel is located a few hundred yards further, on the right.
