Burns Farm Caravans Camping & Glamping
Burns Farm campsite is a working farm situated in St john’s In The Vale, Keswick, right in the heart of the Lake District. With just thirty caravan pitches, it’s perfect for those seeking peace, quiet, and a little dose of tranquillity and birdsong.
Burns Farm is located half a mile off the A66. Three miles from Keswick. One mile from Threlkeld and 20 miles from Windermere. The site has very good access. The pitches are level with full services including WIFI. The thirty fully serviced pitches are five metres wide and eleven metres deep. They are hardstanding with a grass firebreak of three metres in between each pitch. The grass area has a wooden picnic bench.
There are three campfields to choose from each offering something a little different for your camping experience. The pitches are picket fenced to give our customers privacy and the space to relax and take-in the idyllic location with amazing views and break taking sunsets.
The site is dog friendly with two of our three campfields being dog friendly. There is a lovely quiet dog walk just off site along an old coach road towards Tewet Tarn and we have a warm dog wash area for those muddy days.
Our Luxury Bell Tents are in the Blencathra Field. Five of these tents are on decking. The tents come with a metal bed with luxury cotton sheets. There is a seating area, an equipped camping kitchen USB charging, fairy light and a small heater for those chilly nights. Outside area has a wooden picnic bench and firepit. The shower block amenities are available to gusts or for an extra treat the private rooms can be hired.
The indoor heated pot wash area has 6 sinks and a freezer for ice block freezing. The laundry room consists of two washers and two dryers each are £1 coin operated. There are charging lockers to keep your phones charged or valuables safe. These are key operated at a cost of £3 per day.
Shower in luxury after a hard day on the fells in award-winning amenities. The block is underfloor heated with a wet room style shower area. There are five private rooms three are wet rooms and two have a sunken bath giving the ultimate luxury for a camping getaway.
The farm is surrounded by stunning views of the mountain landscape a great base for exploring the surrounding mountains and peaks of Blencathra, Skiddaw and Helvellyn. With many trials from the campsite, it’s ideally situated for walkers. On the Tewet Tarn trail towards High Rigg you can see the views down and across the valley.
Threlkeld Village is a pleasant 20-minute walk and the former railway route now a walking and cycling trail makes for a unique and memorable three-mile trekking experience to and from the town of Keswick

Directions from Penrith
Follow signs for Keswick and the A66 west. Continue on A66 for approximately 15 miles. Do not leave the A66 until you see large brown tourist sign for Burns Farm Caravan & Campsite just outside of the village of Threlkeld, even if the sat nav says to. Take a left turning off the A66 sign posted Burns Farm and Castlerigg Stone Circle and follow the road for about 1/2 mile up the hill. When you arrive at the farm please park on the roadside and walk to reception as the caravan and campsite is just further on to the right. Reception is at the Farm House.
