Avondale is ideally situated in the heart of Keswick, allowing you to park the car and forget it. Whether you are a walker, a cyclist or someone just looking for a base to explore the area, Avondale is perfectly located. Approximately 5 minutes walk to the centre of town Avondale enables you to explore the area and sample some of what Keswick has to offer.
Within a few minutes you will be amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, and should you venture further afield you will discover some delightful villages nestled in the heart of The Lakes.
Keswick is easily accessible and you may choose to use the local buses or even the Launch to get around, all of which are a short stroll from Avondale, in fact we can provide you with tickets should you decide to use the launch.
Avondale can also provide a great base when you are visiting for the local festivals and events, all of which add to the attraction of the area.
For the Theatre lovers we can also provide you with discounted tickets to the ‘Theatre on the Lake’, hosting some of the finest shows and events in the area, not to mention its unique location.
There is a twice-weekly market on Thursday and Saturday, bringing some of the wares and delights the area has to offer, providing a sample of what The Lake District has to offer.
For the more adventurous there are many challenges to keep you on your feet, including cycling the Olympic class course at Whinlatter forest, or for the road enthusiast, why not try The Fred Whitton Challenge. There is also the ‘Via Ferrata Xtreme at the Honister Slate Mine, only for those with nerves of steel.
There is something for everyone in Keswick and we hope we can make your visit an occasion to remember.
Looking forward to meeting you
Amy & Chris
Location
We look forward to welcoming you to Avondale and hope you have a safe and pleasant journey to Keswick. If you're travelling on the M6 motorway, the best approach to Keswick is via the A66 from Penrith leading to the A591 Penrith Rd. As you enter Keswick, the River Greta is on your right hand side. Just after the green metal arched walkway bridge that crosses the river, turn first left. It's a sharp left, (almost turning back on yourself), the Cumbrian Cottages shop should be on your right. We are about 100m along the road on the right hand side.
If you are coming by public transport and are making your way to us on foot; walk up the Main St, keeping the Moot Hall on your right. At the top of Main St, at the Keswick Lodge corner, turn left and continue to the Cumbrian Cottages shop on the right hand side. We are 100m along this street on the right.
