We are blessed with regular and reliable buses in and around Keswick.

With single fares capped at £2 getting the bus is a much cheaper alternative than paying for parking, and removes the stress of having to find somewhere to park during busy periods. 

Whether you are heading out on a walk, to a local attraction, or just want a scenic tour, getting the bus couldn't be easier.

Some buses run all year round.

Don't forget Single fares are capped at £2! 

Make sure you buy a single ticket on your outward and inward-bound journeys to get the deal otherwise, you will be charged more if you ask for a return ticket.

£2 Single Bus Fares on all routes

The Bus Fare Cap scheme is a government funded scheme being introduced on most single (including Child and Student) bus journeys across England until December 2024, including those listed on this page. You can take a single journey and not pay more than £2. If your current ticket is less than £2, don’t worry it’ll stay the same price! Buy your ticket using the Stagecoach app or cash/contactless on the bus.

The Honister Rambler 

This is a circular seasonal bus service which operates from Easter to October in both clockwise and anti clockwise directions taking in Portinscale, Catbells, Grange, Seatoller, Honister Slate Mine, Buttermere, Lorton and Whinlatter Forest.

Honister Pass - Travel through one of the steepest passes in the region, this bus ride is like no other and a scenic route.

It is a great route if you are planning to hike up Catbells or you have a mine tour/adrenaline pass booked at Honister Slate mine

Cockermouth to Buttermere 

This journey operates Saturday, Sunday and public holidays only, between 4th May to 1st September 2024

This bus route is the same as the Honister Rambler 77 & 77A, but operates more drop-off locations and times on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays 

A fantastic bus to hop onto to head to Buttermere from Keswick, let the bus driver tackle the windy roads and sit back and relax.

Keswick to Penrith via Glenridding

A Brand New Bus Service for this year 2024

Running Saturday and Sundays only for now 

This new bus route will take you from Keswick to Penrith and back via, Aira Force, Glenridding, Patterdale, Pooley Bridge and Lowther

Penrith-Keswick-Bassenthwaite-Cockermouth- Workington

This service runs from Penrith bus station via Penrith railway station to Keswick and then continues to Cockermouth and Workington. 

The X5 serves the villages of Threlkeld, Portinscale, Braithwaite and Thornthwaite whilst the X4 goes to Bassenthwaite village, Castle Inn and the Lakes Distillery. 

Please note that the bus doesn't go into Portinscale village but stops on the A66

Lancaster - Keswick 

This service runs between Lancaster and Keswick via Kendal, Windermere railway station, Ambleside and Grasmere

This route takes you on one of the most scenic roads in the UK, the A591, taking you from the South Lakes to the North Lakes, with many stops to allow you to explore so much of The Lake District.
