Relax and Enjoy a Bench with a View

Relax and Enjoy a Bench with a View

It's great to go on a walk or bike ride but it is even better when you take the time to stop, sit, and admire the views.

So we thought we'd share with you some of our favourite benches in and around Keswick.

Castlehead

Close to Keswick Town Centre, it is only a 20-30 minute walk from the town centre.

Just a short climb rewards you with panoramic views across Derwentwater to the Mountains as well as a birds-eye view over the town and Bassenthwaite Lake.

A dial gives the name of 30 fells which can be seen. It is a great route for families as children can gain a great sense of accomplishment from getting to the top of the hill. There is a scrambly bit just before the top which adds to the fun. The whole route from the Market Square can be accomplished in less than an hour and ends with a walk down to the lake and back through Hope Park.

Latrigg

Latrigg is Keswick's own fell and one for the 'must-do' list for your visit to Keswick. The views from the summit over Keswick town, Derwentwater and the surrounding fells are breath-taking and really help you to orientate yourself. An easy up and down route via Spooney Green Lane from Keswick with a circular route round the summit.

If you can't make it all the way up from Keswick there is a small car park at Gale Road above Applethwaite with a Limited Mobility Path to the viewpoint.

The bench on Latrigg is just below the summit and is a great place to sit and relax and take in the beautiful views.

Friar's Crag

The bench we all know and love!

It is only a short walk from the town centre and well worth visiting as the view over Derwentwater to the jaws of Borrowdale is amazing. From the Market Square stroll along Lake Road, through the beautiful gardens of Hope Park, follow the shoreline past the boat landings on Derwentwater and you''ll very shortly arrive at the viewpoint.

Loweswater

This bench on the terrace path above Loweswater is a great place to stop for a picnic, to take a photo or simply enjoy the view.

Millennium Seat

A little less well-known than Friar's Crag but with equally spectacular views.

This bench is located on a small headland just off the main lakeshore path.

A Roadside View

Whilst cycling round Derwentwater this bench provides a well deserved place for a rest, just off the side of the road, after the push up the hill out of Grange

Dodd Wood

The panoramic view from the Dodd Wood Summit Trail is a very atmospheric one.

It is a great place to catch your breath on the way to the top where 360-degree views await you.

Whinlatter Forest

Just off the Gorse Cycling Trail up in Whinlatter, a 10km route on mostly well-surfaced forest roads.

A perfect place to rest awhile with stunning views.

Derwentwater Foreshore

Just beyond the boat landings, several tables provide a great place to stop with a stunning outlook over Derwentwater to Derwent Isle and the fells beyond.

Hope Park

Located between the town and the lake, there are numerous benches in Hope Park from which you can admire the beautiful gardens and generally just watch the world go by.
