Scruffs Fun Dog Show Returns After Two-Year “Paws”
POSTPONED - NEW DATE SUNDAY 17TH JULY
One of Keswick’s most popular events is to make a welcome return to the town’s calendar later this month after a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Keswick Scruffs Fun Dog Show is set to take place on Sunday June 26th in Fitz Park, and is organised by Keswick Town Council, and Chris and Peter Harper, who own Podgy Paws Pet Shop in the town, supported by a band of volunteers.
New for this year will be a Dachshund Race, to see who’s “sausage dog” can run the fastest, in addition to an entertaining Dogtathlon / Obstacle course, and categories including best biscuit catcher, most handsome dog and most appealing eyebrows.
Entry into the show field is free, with a £3 entry fee per class. There will be 14 classes plus the Dogtathlon and Dachshund Race. The show will also feature 36 trade stands selling lots of goodies, including food and drink.
The registration tent opens on the show field at 10am, while pre-entry will be available at Podgy Paws Pet Shop in Tithebarn Street until Friday 24th June.
Keswick Scruffs Best in Show 2022 will be chosen from all the category winners (excluding the Dogtathalon and Dachshund Race) and will win the ‘Harry Winter Memorial Trophy’ plus prizes of a Hurtta dog harness, lead, collar, dog coat and cooling vest to the value of £200.
The full list of classes and prizes, the timetable and other information can be viewed at: www.keswick-scruffs.co.uk.
The event celebrates the fact that Keswick has been crowned top dog in The Kennel Club’s Dog-Friendly Town in the UK category on five occasions.
Chris Harper, of Podgy Paws Pet Shop, said: “We are delighted that Keswick Scruffs is back on this year after an enforced two-year sabbatical. We have some great fun classes and special events and lots of fabulous prizes kindly donated by local businesses. Once again, we will have our unique ‘Wooden Bone’ award which is awarded to the dog that stands-out - but maybe not for the right reasons! Keswick Scruffs is a great fun day for all, including families, and we hope lots of people and their lovely dogs come along to enjoy this special day.”
