With the new Covid rules making daytime drinking very tricky, it seems that partaking in a spot of afternoon tea is the only acceptable way to enjoy a festive tipple during daylight hours.

The Christmas period is known as a time for over-indulgence, which is why this year Lake District Hotels Ltd. have revealed two inventive foodie offerings on their 2020 menus that are each strong contenders for Christmas treat of the season.

After a turbulent year involving two separate hotel closures, the family-owned hotel group has gone all-out to make sure there is something to suit all palettes across their hotels’ festive menus. Last month, some of the finest chefs across the group put their heads together to come up with two festive delicacies that are bound to sway guests one way or the other.

First of which is the group’s newly reimagined Festive Afternoon Tea that is available at the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa and the Borrowdale Hotel located within the Borrowdale Valley.

As a firm favorite for the traditionalists out there, this aesthetic tower of festive-inspired delicacies includes a Spiced Mulled Wine Pear Rudolph’s Nose, Orange Bavarois Christmas Present, Chocolate Christmas Tree Delice and a Passion Fruit, Yuzu & Gingerbread Trifle among many others.

The other contender for Christmas treat of the season is the group’s Yuletide Hikers Afternoon Board which is available at the newly awarded 4* Skiddaw Hotel situated in Keswick’s Market Square. For this treat, chefs sought to reimagine the quintessentially British tradition of Afternoon Tea, giving it a strong savory influence alongside some Christmas delights.

The Hikers Picnic Board has been one of Lake District Hotels’ best-selling gift vouchers since its launch following the Skiddaw Hotel’s ground floor refurbishment back in February 2020 and the group are anticipating its Yuletide counterpart to be just as popular.

The Festive Afternoon Tea is available at the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa, Borrowdale Hotel and Inn on the Lake every day from 12pm – 5pm until 4^th January 2021 and is priced at £24.95pp. The Yuletide Hikers Afternoon Board is exclusive to the Skiddaw Hotel and is available each day from 12pm – 5pm priced at £31.95 for two-people to share.
