Every Sunday lunchtime this summer, people taking in the mountain rimmed lake view at Crow Park in Keswick will be able to enjoy live music thanks to a new project run by the National Trust.

Music by the Lake features a range of talented musicians from West Cumbria, including open air open mic sessions led by local singer-songwriters JP Worsfold and Dave Camlin on the first and third Sunday of each month. Other dates will feature community choirs Wild Chorus, Sing Owt and DisChord, an acoustic session from Folk Cumbria and entertainment from Cockermouth Ukuleles and local steel drum band, Steel Alive.

The series had a successful start on Sunday 5 June with the first open air open mic welcoming six different musicians to perform. Weather permitting, the shows will continue through to the final session on Sunday 4 September.

Jessie Binns, Senior Programming & Partnerships Officer for the National Trust in the North and West Lake District says: “We wanted to provide something really simple that would work both for locals and for visitors, and which would give an opportunity to local musicians to showcase their talent. This way, people living and working in Keswick can drop in whenever they have free time each Sunday and visitors to Keswick will discover it when they’re out exploring. Crow Park was given to the National Trust in 1925 for the benefit of the people in the town and the rest of the nation – we hope this is a way we can help people make the most of this brilliant green space on their doorstep.”

Malcolm Richard, who took the first ‘guest’ spot at the open mic on 5 June says: “It was a real thrill to play at the first Music by the Lake series! The setting was perfect and very inspiring - both visually and musically. I'd love to see more people coming along be part of the next events, either playing or supporting - I think they'll love it”
