National Trust Lakeside Shop To Be Re-Opened By Popular Local Business, The Moon And Sixpence
Visitors to Derwent Water foreshore will be greeted with a tasty new addition right in time for the official start of summer. Cockermouth-based business owner Stephen Kidd will be opening the doors to The Moon & Sixpence in theformer National Trust Lakeside Visitor Centre this Wednesday 22 June.
The National Trust property, which closed as a visitor centre and shop during the national lockdown in 2020, welcomes its new tenant into this prominent Keswick spot as it grows beyond its original location on Cockermouth’s Main Street. Stephen’s speciality coffee shop, awarded ‘Best Neighbourhood Coffee Spot’ for its flagship site, expanded into a ‘pop-up’ coffee van in 2021 and could often be seen in popular National Trust locations, such as Cinderdale above Crummock Water.
Bruce Hardy, Visitor Operations & Experience Manager for the National Trust, says: “We’re delighted that this much-loved location in Keswick will re-open for visitors to enjoy the Lake District’s best coffee as well as quality, local bakes during their visit to some of the spaces we care for. We know people have welcomed the pop-up Moon & Sixpence experience and this tenancy means that both the local community and visitors alike can support this local business while they enjoy the beauty and nature of Derwent Water.”
Stephen Kidd, owner of the Moon & Sixpence, says: “The success of our Cockermouth shop has come from remaining true to our values of bringing people together as a community, as well as offering the best quality experience. We’re excited to build new relationships with the Keswick community and delight visitors to the area with our speciality coffee offer, of which we’re so proud.”
The Moon & Sixpence in Keswick will replicate the offer in Cockermouth of speciality, locally roasted coffee, using locally-sourced organic milk, and quality, freshly-baked cakes. In addition, the Keswick shop will also offer ice-cream to delight visitors young and old.
