In the run up to Easter, family-owned hotel group Lake District Hotels have instigated some friendly competition among the pupils of 3 local primary schools by launching an Easter egg decorating competition.

Borrowdale School, Bassenthwaite School and Patterdale School were all approached to participate in the ‘egg-citing’ opportunity and were each provided with a selection of wooden easter eggs for the children to bring to life with their most imaginative Easter designs.

The sp-egg-tacular designs were then put on display at the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa in Borrowdale, Skiddaw Hotel in Keswick and Inn on the Lake hotel in Glenridding respectively and a winning egg was selected for each primary school.

The students behind the designs of the 3 winning eggs each won a giant milk chocolate Easter egg provided by the hotel group which were individually personalized with the winners’ names written on the front in icing. The winners were announced on the final day of term on Friday 1^st April.

The competition was fierce with each school providing a range of wonderfully decorated eggs; however, the final decision on which design was the best was ultimately decided by each hotels’ General Manager.

The competition winners were Molly Edmondson from Borrowdale School, Lucian Paxon from Bassenthwaite School and Elizabeth Wilmot from Patterdale School.

“I couldn’t believe the amount of effort that had been put into each design” said Gary Wilson, General Manager of the Inn on the Lake at Glenridding. “You could really tell that the children had put their all into their individual eggs and they should all be so proud of themselves!”

Each individual decorated egg can be found at the entrance area of each hotel hanging from a wooden Easter tree amongst an Easter display. The creative designs will be on display in each hotel across the whole of the Easter period.

“Since this is the first Easter we have been able to properly celebrate since 2019, we wanted to go that extra mile and give the children of these local primary schools something fun to do. We hope all our hotel visitors enjoy seeing the designs on display and appreciate the tremendous effort of all the pupils – well done to all involved!” Lake District Hotels Director, Dani Hope, told us.

Lake District Hotels are running a selection of family-friendly events over the Easter weekend including Easter Egg Hunts that are taking place at the Inn on the Lake on Good Friday, the Borrowdale Hotel on Saturday 16^th April and Easter Sunday at the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa.

Each Easter Egg Hunt will take place in the gardens of each hotel and there will be a prize for every child that enters. Families must be dining at the hotels to participate.
