Christmas Traditions Live On At Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa Despite Lockdown With The 2020 Gingerbread Hotel!
Whilst hospitality businesses across England were forced to close their doors again due to a second lockdown, one Lake District Hotel has been working hard behind the scenes to ensure that their festive season perseveres despite the coronavirus pandemic.
This week, Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa, in the Borrowdale valley will reopen its doors on Thursday 3rdDecember and welcome back guests to revel at their twinkling Christmas displays and the glorious Gingerbread house which stands tall at the hotel entrance.
The magnificent Gingerbread house, which is created each year by Head Chef, Shane Hamilton, has become somewhat of an annual tradition for the hotel, whereby locals and visitors alike travel far and wide to see it. The lifespan of the Gingerbread house comes to an end on New Year’s Day when it is smashed to pieces by the children staying in the hotel.
Shane Hamilton, Head Chef at the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa commented “This is the 16thyear I’ve made the Christmas Gingerbread house which took a total of 4 days to make. Each year it gets bigger and better and I try make little changes so guests can have fun spotting new additions. This year, I’ve included the addition of a guest on one of the hotel balconies, but in light of current circumstances, he’s wearing a face mask. The recipe is one of my best kept secrets, however I can tell you that this year it took 12 kilograms of flour to create.”
The owners of this family-run hotel feel that this year it’s more important than ever to spread Christmas cheer throughout the hotel, so families can enjoy the festive ambience and have some fond memories of 2020 to look back on. For this reason, it was so important to continue with the Gingerbread house tradition and make the Christmas decorations even more beautiful than ever before.
“Each year we go all out for Christmas” says Dani Hope, Lake District Hotels Marketing Director, “and after the last eight months, we wanted to make sure that this December was even more extraordinary than ever before to give people the morale boost they deserve. This year guests can enjoy the decorations as they tuck into a delicious festive lunch, our fabulous new Yuletide afternoon tea or simply as they get cosy next to the fire with a freshly brewed cup of coffee.”
