CALVERT LAKES INVITES EVERYONE TO ‘JUST KEEP SWIMMING’!
Calvert Lakes Trust - Invites Everyone to "Just Keep Swimming"
One of Keswick’s best kept secrets is doing its utmost to encourage everyone to enjoy the extensive benefits of swimming. Known around the UK for leading the way in the accessible outdoor adventure, what is perhaps less well-known is that Calvert Lakes is home to a state-of-the-art multisensory swimming pool. It’s open daily and is accessible to all.
In an effort to allow even more people to access water-based fun and exercise, the Calvert team are delighted to now be able to offer two new slots in their pool schedule. Locals and visitors can now choose to enjoy a discounted early bird swim daily between 9am and 10am or a leisurely twilight swim from 5.45pm - 7.15pm.
At 12 metres long, it may not be Olympic size but it’s certainly full of surprises. Small but perfectly formed, the water centre includes:
- A fully accessible 12x6m multi-sensory hydrotherapy pool,
- Light, sound and projection to stimulate the senses
- Sensory features include a spa, bubble pads and a water fountain – all activated by poolside buttons.
- Warm and welcoming water set at a balmy 32°C.
- the pool floor can be raised or lowered to alter water depth and aid even those living with the most profound disabilities to enjoy the water (require advance notice)
- Spacious family changing rooms plus poolside changing rooms with hoists
- The pool can be booked for private use or guests can join a public session with a maximum of 24 swimmers.
While there is no lifeguard on duty in the pool, all swimmers must undergo a short pool induction. Historically this has been done in person on arrival, meaning guests have had to allow a little more time for their swim. However, the team have been hard at work behind the scenes and a filmed induction will shortly be available for the public to watch at their leisure in advance meaning pool time is maximised!
Cheryl McDonald, Calvert Lakes’ Income Generation Manager commented:
“Our Water Centre really is second to none and we love welcoming regular local families and groups to come and use it. We’re really hoping that by expanding our hours, we’ll be able to encourage some new faces from around North Cumbria. From plain old, regular swim sessions to pool parties with family and friends - I, and the wider team, really believe the Calvert Lakes’ pool is a genuine asset to both the local community and visitors alike – so let’s use it!”
