Details

Jennie Lee: The extraordinary life of the radical MP you’ve never heard of… Mikron Theatre company tell her story in a musical drama which is fast-paced and warm hearted with humour and pathos.  Tickets £15 (Under 18 £7.50)

In 1929, Jennie Lee left her coal-mining family in Scotland to become Westminster’s youngest MP – so young that, as a woman, she couldn’t even vote for herself. Tenacious, bold and rebellious, Jennie cut her own path through history. Jennie fought with her every breath for the betterment of all our lives. She believed that every person deserved their share of the fruits of the earth – for wages, health, and housing, and for art and education too.

Jennie Lee’s role in the foundation of the Open University and the expansion of the Arts Council aided Jennie’s fight for bread and roses, and in doing so, changed the twentieth century.  Oh yes, and founder of the NHS Nye Bevan was her husband. But Jennie is no footnote in someone else’s past.

This musical drama is performed by the multi-award winning Mikron Theatre Company in their 52nd year of touring exceptional theatre in extraordinary places. They visit over 130 venues per year. In the summer they tour by narrowboat performing outdoors by the canal, in pubs, allotments, dry docks to name a few. In spring and autumn, they tour indoors in village halls, theatres, care homes and more.

Press reviews have described Jennie Lee as: “Up there with one of the best shows that Mikron has done” and “The standing ovation at the end proved that Jennie Lee is a brilliant, important piece of theatre”  On:Yorkshire  and “The audience are moved to laughter and sadness almost in a single breath” Yorkshire Times.

Jennie Lee: The extraordinary life of the radical MP you’ve never heard of… will be performed at Threlkeld Village Hall at 7:30pm on Thursday 10th October 2025. Bar and Box Office from 6:45pm. Tickets £15 (under 18 £7.50) from Threlkeld Village Hall Coffee Shop or on-line at www.threlkeldvillagehall.org
