Wilding film, including pre-recorded Q & A with Isabella Tree
Followed by Guest Speaker Lee Schofield "Wilding the Eastern Lakes"

As part of Great Big Green Week

Opening nationally in cinemas today, Wilding is a documentary based on Isabella Tree’s bestselling book of the same name, which has sold 350k copies across the UK. Knepp is a beacon of hope for England’s wildlife. When Isabella and her husband inherited the 400 year old estate to farm, they recognised how sick the land was. But a groundbreaking radical experiment has been nothing short of transformative. Now it’s a place where mussel-diving pigs, storks and butterflies find sanctuary, and where thriving flora and a vast array of animals have taken back the land. This is a charming, hopeful and necessary story of ecological regeneration.

In this first screening, we are delighted to be joined by Lee Schofield to provide a talk about how lessons learned at Knepp are being applied in Cumbria. During Lee's 11 years as site manager for the RSPB at Haweswater, he saw salmon return to rewiggled rivers, hay meadows return to flowery richness, grouse return to resurgent heathlands and learnt that a focus on nature can lead to sustainable, resilient farm business. In his spare time, he wrote the inspirational and award-winning book Wild Fell, which chronicles the journey to nature recovery. In April 2024, Lee took up a new role at Lowther Estate working on a huge new landscape recovery project, inspired in part by Jim Lowther’s visit to Knepp. The vision is for a vast swathe of land extending from Penrith to Kendal where nature and people can thrive in harmony. He has also taken on a small farm near Haweswater and is developing ideas for a new book.
