The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig, strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp.

Martin Amis, author of the source novel, died on May 19, 2023, the same day the film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.  It went on to win the grand prize as well as the FIPRESCI prize for its Director Jonathan Glazer.
