Theatre by the Lake and the National Trust Partner to Make the Outdoors More Accessible with a New Tramper and Guided Accessible Walks

Theatre by the Lake announce a new partnership with the National Trust, making the beautiful Cumbrian countryside more accessible than ever before. Thanks to the generous support of the Keswick Lions, a brand new all-terrain mobility scooter, known as a Tramper, is now available for hire at the theatre.
This exciting development coincides with the upcoming Fells for All festival in 2024. Theatre by the Lake and the National Trust have joined forces to create three fully accessible walks, led by a National Trust ranger, starting and finishing at the theatre.
The Tramper allows those with limited mobility to join these walks and explore the stunning scenery of the Lake District. With its robust design and off-road capabilities, the Tramper can navigate a variety of terrains, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all.

Phil from Outdoor Mobility has said: “The Tramper is proving extremely popular which is fantastic! There have been 19 bookings in the past 30 days which is currently our most popular site. It’s bringing a lot of joy to lots of people so a big thank you to the Theatre by the Lake and the Keswick Lions for their support. The wonderful guided walks, with a National Trust Ranger will hopefully bring the Tramper to the attention of even more people.”

Spokesperson for the National Trust, Roy Henderson, Borrowdale Area Ranger for the National Trust added: “It’s great working in partnership with The Theatre By The Lake and Keswick Lions to share with people our accessible paths. This is a brilliant opportunity and ties in well with our founding principles to look after places of historical interest and natural beauty for everyone, forever”.

Andy Cannon, President of the Keswick Lions, said: "It is with great pride that Keswick Lions have been involved with and financially supported the development of this amazing facility. Trampers will help many more people to enjoy the breath-taking views we have in the lake District and will increase involvement in outdoor activities with family and friends. This is a wonderful example of partnership working with the National Trust and The Theatre by the Lake to improve the lives of others who have additional challenges in accessing the countryside. Keswick Lions aim to continue their involvement with the Trampers and thank everyone involved in the organisation and management of this amazing initiative."

Guided walks will take place on Tue 28 May, Sat 29 June and Thu 8 August. To book your spot on the guided accessible walks, go to the National Trust Borrowdale and Derwent Water page at: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/borrowdale
